We headed up to Logan this past weekend to be utterly spoiled with fantastic company, lovely conversation, delicious food and memories of days gone by. It was lovely and much needed.

I could not believe that ten years had already passed since I, a country bumpkin from England, found myself attending college in Logan, Utah. Who would have known that such a random occurrence would set me on the path of self discovery, romance, marriage and motherhood.

I will happily admit that tears fell last night as I bid farewell to my friends in Lark Rise and Candleford. An inspiring final episode brimming with romance, joy and hope. I am so grateful to have experienced this wonderful show. As I cuddled in my blanket, it was so exciting to escape to the sunshine and green fields of the English countryside. The idylic simplicity of life where beautiful costumes made even corsets seem bearable. I felt honored to learn words of wisdom from Queenie and Dorcas, to chuckle over the delightful mishaps of Minnie, to discover the power of humility and kindness from sweet Margaret and to see the endless possibility of change through the gossiping Pratt sisters.

 
Thank you BBC 1. You always manage to transport me back home, and help ease the feelings of home sickness. Bravo...a pure triumph with this show.

A Story of Loss

I walked through the back door and across the crooked patio. I stepped down on to the gravel hearing it crunch under my feet. A lifeless air hung, grey clouds looming over the desolate vegetable patch foretold the coming of winter.

As I reached the gate, I found my family huddled in a small circle. I was met with forced smiles. I kneeled down and reached over the small fence running my hands through the silky fur. She seemed as always spriteful and contented.

As I turned my gaze, I was met with the small creature placed lightly in my husband's hands. So tiny. So small. The brushings of black and white fur proved its claim for life. As we placed it into the small hole and blessed it with our prayers, I was overcome with a feeling that I could have done more.

That night as I lay in bed, one hand placed lightly over my abdomen, I was haunted by the feeling of loss and an unbearable realization that there was no control of losing something so small and fragile.

The next day I was told that they were unable to find a heartbeat.

I was glad to close the door on 2010.

However, it is good to remember that there are opposites in everything. The good times come with the bad. Therefore, I thought it might be best to review some of the fun, the memorable and the wonderful moments of our little family in 2010:

Completed my Doula Training and was honored to attend six wonderful births.
Fun camping trip with good friends.
Celebrating the long and amazing life of Grandpa Cherrington.
Fresh fruit and vegetables from our garden.
A fantastic trip to England, where we had ice-cream every day, ate fish and chips twice in one week and played every day. (I miss home)
The kids were able to go to the beach in California for a week.

DOULA!
I am so excited to hear about this new documentary that follows the story of three doulas,

as they support three couples before, during and after birth.

It comes out in England in June, so maybe I will try and get my hands on one to watch

while I am in the Motherland!!

I have found myself falling in love with the radio.

It seems odd that a simple, and even somewhat traditional, medium of media

has sparked such an interest in me, but it has.

I will admit that I mostly cheat and listen to podcasts, however, it has the same desired effect.

I am subscribed to numerous podcasts,

This American Life, RadioWest, The Moth (thanks Lisa) and of course, StoryCorps.

I sit in a little room, with no windows, in a basement office.

I have a small lamp, with a natural light bulb,

trying to (subtly) fool myself that there is an inkling of light coming into the office.

The days are long.

Though when I put in my headphones, I transport myself into not such a lonely place.

Suddenly, I am surrounded by people and voices and I find myself

listening, thinking, laughing, crying and loving.

The art of storytelling is so wonderful.

I was brought up in a home where the radio was like white noise.

My mother would come home and make dinner listening to “The Archers”, a radio soap opera.

I never listened, though, the memory of the voices can still be heard in my mind. I remember on

Saturday mornings the voice of the local radio DJ, resonating through the kitchen,

spreading news about our community.

The radio has become this wonderful, new emerging area of media.

It now reaches to the internet, where you can follow the stories further and have visual images

of the people that have shared a story with you.

Podcasts make sure that you never miss an episode of your favorite broadcast.

You are able to catch that five minute short story told by a willing stranger.

Lovely.

I find myself longing for a movement back towards the simple pleasure of storytelling

and bringing back this sense of community.

So last night I watched the documentary,

“The September Issue.”

This cultures seems so foreign to me and I was intrigued.

I did not expect to find it that interesting and my expectations were met.

It was boring.

Though I was fascinated on how they produced a 90 minute documentary on a woman, who appeared to really have no interest in being documented?!

Olympics

Lets just take a few moments to discuss how enjoyable the Olympics are this year.

Keep in mind I am not a huge “sports fan”, but there is something different about the Olympics.

I love how it unites the whole world.

It is so easy to get wrapped up in the emotional stories, the patriotic pride of each country and the simple

“WOO HOO” when they win.

A few of my favorite moments so far:

- Obviously the number one choice has to be Amy Williams winning the gold for Great Britain with the Skeleton. On this one I was jumping up and down and flailing my arms!

- Canadian Ice Skaters took gold last night for the ice dancing with their beautiful and flawless routine. I am not going to deny that my eyes started to fill up with tears. Well deserved! And then there was the couple from China who won the gold for the couples figure skating. That was such a great story.

- Torah Bright of Australia winning the gold snowboarding (half-pipe) her run was incredibly impressive! I was also pleased that Hannah Teter got the silver - I liked her.

Lets move onto the Women’s Downhill Skiing. The whole family was glued to the television! Is it bad that we enjoyed the crashes as much as the wins. I know that the falls are extremely devastating but it definitely made for exciting television. Extremely fun.

I am very excited to share that I have recently become a fully trained Doula.

There are many reasons in why I have chosen to become a Doula. It is the beginning of a new journey for me. I was awakened over the past week. It was an honor to be surrounded by beautiful women all with their own personal stories, beliefs and cultures yet all joined together spiritually and bonded by the strength and beauty of womanhood.

I am extremely passionate about the beauty and miracle of birth. I feel so privileged and honored to be in a position where I can bring emotional support and encouragement to a mother going through the natural wonderment of life. What a pure honor it is to share and be a witness to this life changing event for mother, partner and family.

I will be providing further information in regards to the services that I offer on a separate website, however, I am in the process of finalizing it. Please contact me if you have any questions or would just like a chat!

Food

I am not particularly a “trend follower” or someone who tends to jump on the band wagon. However, this being said I am going to have to second the flow of information and blog posting on the movie Food, Inc. It has been life changing to our little family.

It is so different when you see visuals of the truth, it becomes so much harder to deny it. The movie reveals the truth about the food industry within the country and it was extremely disturbing and exhilarating at the same time. We watched it a couple of months ago and it has been wonderful to focus some of our resolutions and new beginnings around our health and what we eat.

It is true...you are what you eat. Our family has felt so much better in the last couple of months. We are eating meat very sparingly, at the most only once or twice a week. We made a family decision that we did not want to be vegetarian (not yet anyway!) , but we did want to know where our meat was coming from. We wanted to make sure that the animals we were consuming, were humanely treated and raised, before they provided us with nourishment.

This means we have adjusted our food budget a little but it has been worth it. The meal plans have been much more fun to put together too and it is fun trying new recipes!

For the time being we have only been purchasing our meat from Wholefood markets. However, this still worries me a little. I am much more interested in purchasing our meat directly through local farmers, maybe buying our meat in bulk. I recently came across this local farm and I am very interested in pursuing more information. I will let you know how it goes.

No fast food. From personal experience I have seen how fast food has been detrimental to my life. Coming from the country side in England, where the closest fast food restaurant was a good 20 minute drive away, to living with it on every corner for the past 9 years in the US....trust me I have seen the change!

I would highly recommend everyone to watch this movie, it is great. There are disturbing images and I found myself nauseated and crying at times.

I could not sleep that night either!(I can be a little sensitive when watching shows)

However, it is well worth a watch. As I said it has been life changing for us, and we are more dedicated to what we feel is right for our little family.

p.s - you can watch it instantly if you have Netflix.

It is hard to come back to reality and work after a wonderful and extremely relaxing Christmas holiday. I loved spending every hour of every day with the the three people I love more then anything in this world.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas holiday and New Year. I can’t believe another year has gone by. Time seems to pass faster as you get older, it is a strange sensation.

I wonder what 2010 has in store for us. I believe and feel that 2008 and 2009 were good to us so I tread into the new decade with a little trepidation.

The New Year Resolutions have been written, divided into categories of health, spirituality, education, family and finances.

A direction has been put forth and slowly we move forward step by step.

Though it is interesting, no matter what direction you head in, it seems that life just seems to turn you around. Sometimes you head in a different direction, sometimes you turn around and go back, sometimes you just feel a little disoriented but no matter what you just keep walking the path of life.

Last night I cuddled with Amira and Cleo and we read “Oh, the Places You'll Go” by Dr Seuss. I have read it before but last night I was so enthralled,touched and inspired by this wonderful story of encouragement and direction.

A story of success and failure, winning and losing, experiencing and learning, holding strong and moving forward.

It came to me that the most important resolution I can make for every year is to continue and to try harder in being an example to my beautiful children.

To show that you walk the path of life with courage, strength and with your head held high.

To teach them that there will be laughter and there will be tears.

There will be joy and there will be pain. They will win and they will lose.

To teach them that there is a purpose for it all.

To love, learn and experience.

Everyone has their own unique journey.

The door is opened and the dog runs out first.

The first footprint of snow is laid onto the blanket.

A pattern follows all the way to the chicken coop.

The ladies are fed, loved and their daily gifts are collected.

The wellington boots plod back and are slipped off at the door.

The sound of bare feet come across the hardwood floor and a cup of tea is put on the bedside table.

I awake from my bed, where I am keeping warm, and I smile at my husband,

I apologize for my lack of posting. Time seemed to just run away with me over the last week. I have decided to round up all the things I wanted to say:

1) An update on how I am doing in regards to my 30/30 project:

- The weight is coming off. The 30 Day Shred has definitely been working. I feel great too!

- I am accomplishing the reading. I have read this extremely amusing and clever novel and I am nearly finished with this wonderful story.

- I am struggling a little with the 30 items a week. I am not an overly organized human being, so this one is definitely a little harder!

- This leads into the 30 things that I am grateful for. I have also not completed this yet...but I will!

- I have corresponded with 4 friends so I am on track with this. Woo Hoo!

2) Impressionable items this week:

- I am so impressed with the strength and courage of my beautiful friend Lisa. I hope everything went well, you are constantly in my thoughts.

- I was impressed with this idea and speech from Steve Berra.

- I was extremely moved and inspired last week when I attended a preview to this school, that my dear friend Amanda is attending.

3) Items that make me smile:

I love this clock.

- Though I am not a city girl, I have fallen in love with this shower curtain. I have redesigned, my yet to be remodeled, bathroom! I found it here.

I soon came to realize that after I turned the dreaded 30 I actually did not feel any different.

I felt nothing.

I have to admit I was extremely disappointed. It seems like such a milestone that had passed.

Then I came to the sudden realization that change only comes when you change something, so I decided to make some written commitments.

It is my 30/30 project.

In my 30th year I vow to make some changes in my life:

1) I commit to losing 30 pounds in my 30th year.

I feel like it is definitely the time to get in shape and change my lifestyle and eating habits.

2) I commit to corresponding with 30 people in my 30th year.

I feel like I am the worst pen friend ever. I have the hardest time writing letters and thank you notes so now it is time to step that up a notch. This does not include any emails, instant messaging or Christmas cards. This also gives me a great excuse to buy beautiful stationery!

3) I commit to writing a list of 30 things once a week that I would like to accomplish in that week.

I need to be more organized. This will help.

4) I commit to writing down 30 things that I would like to accomplish before I turn 40!

This sounds extreme but they will be BIG ticket items!

5) I commit to reading a book every 30 days

(unless it is super long!).

This means that I would have read at least 12 books in my 30th year. I need to catch up on this one.

6) I commit to writing 30 things every 30 days of things that I am grateful for, that I love and that have been an inspiration to me.

There you have it. It is written.

I must confess a guilty pleasure that I have been engaging in recently. I am not one to watch a great deal of television, especially since my beloved ER ended. However, I have started watching the TV show ‘Glee’. I just can’t help it. I find myself quietly chuckling and loving the musical performances.

I believe the addiction stems from my secret fascination with American high schools that I have had since watching the Breakfast Club and all those wonderful 80s movies.

Surprise.

I am still coming down from a wonderful weekend. My darling husband took me on a romantic getaway. My parents are visiting from the motherland so we were able to leave the kids and escape for two days.

Here are some highlights:

- Friday morning we went for a delicious breakfast at Finns. Delectable.

- After breakfast we headed downtown and looked through some boutiques, thrift stores and antique shops.

- The new movie 'Bright Star' was next on the list. It was such a treat to go to the movie theatre in the middle of the day. Words cannot describe how amazingly beautiful and poetic this movie was. Jane Campion did such a wonderful job at creating poetry through the cinematography. It was a great start to our idyllic weekend.

- He then drove me into the mountains and we stayed at the Homestead in Midway. It was so wonderful. Surrounded by trees, colored leaves and cool autumn air. Our room was in a little cottage nestled away and although it was not that cold I took full advantage of the fire in our room.

-We finished off the wonderful day with swimming and a hot mineral bath under the stars.

- On Saturday morning, I was dragged out of my spacious King sized bed to watch the sunrise. It was worth it.

- We then had breakfast burritos. Yummy.

-Headed into Midway, where we rented a tandem. Super fun. We rode into Heber and went around the boutiques and thrift stores. Ate lunch and then rode back up the hill!

- Read books, soaked up the sunshine and played in the leaves.

-Dinner and a movie in Park City.

-Sunday Morning - made a point of not getting out of bed until we had to check out.

- Coming back to my beautiful, smiling children full of hugs and kisses.

Pure bliss. I love him.

I have always promised myself that I will make birthday cakes every year for my children. When Amira asked for a Jack and Sally cake I was a little on the worried side. It is true, Amira asked for 2 fictional dead characters to be on her birthday cake. I love her.

Story.

I love StoryCorps on NPR. If you have not experienced these wonderful weekly 5 minute moments on the radio then please start to tune in or podcast. It is a nice surprise every Friday to see if you will chuckle or cry.

It airs once a week on Friday’s on Morning Edition. Every day people interview one another about their lives at recording booths across America. I am still grinning from this story I heard today.

I love stories that restore your faith in human mankind. A story that reminds you that if you can put personal judgement aside and replace it with kindness and a little bit of faith, it is possible to change the direction of someone’s life.

Surprise.

My friend Marni gave me a beautiful calendar for my birthday. I was looking through the beautiful pictures on the Sunday after my fun night out and I was telling my husband how romantic the pictures were.

On Monday night, two days before my birthday I came home to find our bedroom carpet in the rubbish bin. Between you and I, I freaked out. I was going crazy inside. I was told that I was not allowed to go into the bedroom until Wednesday. I slept on the couch for two nights. I would have to send Amira into the bedroom to get my clothes and shoes. 2 days rolled on.

On Wednesday afternoon, after I had been 30 for quite a few hours, my family picked me up from work. We went out for lunch and then headed home. Everybody was so excited.

I stood in front of the bedroom door and breathed deeply. I was partly nervous and partly excited.

OH MY GOSH!!!

I wish that I could provide before and after pictures (he didn’t take any!) because you would all be blown away. My sweet, darling husband had remodeled the whole bedroom. Since moving into our home we have never done anything to our bedroom. It had ugly purple walls, broken blinds, mismatched bedding and an ugly dirty carpet.

I opened the door to bright blueish, turquoise walls and painted white floorboards with a beautiful rug. He had moved around the layout of the room, so the room seemed so big and airy. A beautiful piece of fabric covered the windows and he had found a gorgeous, bedside table at the thrift store. In the middle of the room he had bought a brand new bed frame with beautiful bed sheets. It was so beautiful and I could not believe he had done it all in two days!

Last but not least, the walls had newly framed pictures on the wall filled with the romantic pictures from the calendar.

He had listened. He had been romantic. He had done good.

I love him.

Birthday.

I woke up last Wednesday and stared at the ceiling. I was sleeping on the couch (stay tuned to find out why) and Lazlo was laying on my feet.

I didn’t feel different. I suppose I did not really expect to.

It was just another day.

I would have to stop pressing snooze on my alarm clock and finally drag myself out of bed. I would have to wake up Hartman so he and Lazlo could take their morning stroll to let out the chickens and check on the rabbits. I would jump in the shower and then awake my soft breathing children from their dreamlands. Get ready for work, get ready for school and all drive together to take me to work. Then the morning kisses and goodbyes.

However, on that Wednesday morning I waved to the three loves of my life, a day older and I believe a day wiser.

Dinner.

The big day is looming. Is it a mourning of my twenties or a celebration of my new decade?

It depends on the day.

Saturday evening was certainly a great celebration. Wonderful food, conversation, gifts and above all company. Thanks girls for making my evening so special. I want you all to know that I appreciate you so dearly and I am honored to enter my thirties with friends who are such wonderful, free spirited and beautiful women.

Seasons.

One of the things I have always loved about Utah since I moved here 9 years ago are the seasons. Coming from a place where it practically rains every day, the seasons tend to merge into each other. In Utah, the four seasons are so distinct. I love the changing of the seasons.

It is now Autumn and I love how the feeling in the air changes. It is harvest time, when the earth is brimming with nourishment, preparing itself for the hibernation it will endure through the winter. What a wonderful time of year. Almost like the finale of a grand concert. The trees provide us with their best performance of grandeur and beauty, displaying extravagant colored costumes. The cooling air brings the security and comfort of sweaters and soft blankets.

The clear distinction between the seasons also create a feeling of change. It is a period where we seem to naturally clean and organize, not only our homes and environment but our thoughts and emotions. I welcome Autumn with a smile on my face and a spring in my step.

Zoo.

It has been a fun filled weekend. We had a family outing to the Zoo on Saturday and it was so enjoyable but we forgot our camera so we could not document it. Hogle Zoo has had a summer of births and there were a number of baby animals. To see the new baby elephant that was born on August 10th was quite an experience. It was so adorably small. It was wonderful to witness people flocking in awe to capture a sight of this new creature.

Amira loved the baby tigers and Cleo loved the baby crocodiles.

The Giraffes are always my favourite. They are so long and unusual looking, yet so graceful and convey such a sweet spirit. I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the baby giraffe.

I have such mixed emotions about zoos. It is such a wonderful teaching opportunity for us, to learn about animals and their habitats. To know what animals are important to our ecosystem, and what animals are endangered and are nearly extinct. I even learned of some new animals that I had never heard of. However, it still upsets me to see a big black bear pacing back and forth in a stone cage and a bald eagle in a cage unable to soar over the mountains.

Today.

It is hard to believe that I have lived in America for 9 years now. That is nearly a decade of my life. Although I am enormously homesick for my green hills and rain, the US is also now my home. I know that in certain ways, this country will never be my home., it can never be what England is to me, however, a feeling has been growing in the last year.

What a wonderful time to live in the US. It is almost possible for me to feel the patriotism that I witness so strongly through friends and family. I know that they are difficult times for the US - the economy is on the downside, unemployment, the country is at war, etc. However, to look at it from a positive side is so exhilarating,

I am impressed with the desire of change. I am impressed that President Barack Obama is trying to reach out to the American people. He is speaking to the school children of this nation, the next generation, and encouraging education, strength and dedication. I believe that he is trying to light a fire inside each and every one of us to believe that this country can do great things again.

Putting aside our political beliefs and sidings and just remembering what brings this country together is what we need. Reading the beginning statement of the Constitution and remembering the promises that this country has been built on - to form a more “perfect” union, to insure domestic tranquilty and to promote general welfare.

We do not and obviously will not agree with every political decision that is made but at least we can identify and witness the great possibility of change. What a wonderful era to live in and for our children to grow up in. A time of courage, strength and dedication. How proud we can feel that we live in a country that has the freedom to evoke change and reform.

Fresh air.

We spent all day Sunday up in the Uinta Mountains. Took a stroll around Mirror Lake and we played in the river at Provo River Falls.

I love it. I love the mountains. I love the fresh air. I love trees. I love watching my kids search for every possible sighting of wildlife. I love watching Amira create artwork using the materials around her (reminds me of her Dad!). I love the cold rush of water over my feet and the feel of the slippery rocks. I love the emotion of sadness in the faces of my children when they see a dead fish.

The carefree air and family love always brings me back to myself.

I am heading up to Swiss Days this weekend. I think it is always fun to walk around the booths and find that one unique booth where the creativity and artistry just make you stand back in awe.

Accessorize.

I have decided that I would like to dedicate more time to accessories. I know you are thinking "wow, that is shallow or materialistic" but I have found a simple pleasure in receiving a new pair of shoes or bag the once a year I do!!! As I am obviously unable to purchase new

accessories I have decided to post a weekly item to celebrate the beauty of accessorizing!

I have to admit I have a love/hate relationship with Anthropologie. I think I could wear and find a home for every item that they carry in their store but, as for everyone I know, who can possibly afford to buy anything there!

Hello!

In our office building there is one single toilet for the women. Today, I went to the loo and the door was locked. I simply reached for the handle and tried to turn it but alas someone was in there. I turned and proceeded to walk back to the office, simply thinking I will return in a few minutes. When suddenly my thoughts are interrupted by a voice coming from the ladie's loo....

"hello.....Hello.......HELLO!!!"

I was so bewildered and caught off guard that I, pathetically, ran away. I have told this story to a few people since, bear in mind it is much more comedic with the sound effect of the woman's voice, but I am still left in bewilderment. Why did the woman shout at me? Why was she so desperate for me to respond to her "hellos"? Why did she care what other woman was trying to relieve herself? Very unusual, but has certainly kept me chuckling for a while.

Peach.

Worth the drive to Utah County...trust me. The fresh peach shakes at Taco Amigo are delectably delicious. Apparently, the peaches are picked from the orchard in the morning, peeled and then served that day. Even if this is not true, it certainly tastes like the truth. Only for a short time so hurry on down!

Emotional.

It has been an overly emotional day. I have found myself shedding tears of sadness and joy all day long. Parents tell you all the time that it just goes by so fast but you never really know until one day you look over and you realize that your first born has stepped over that invisible line. They have danced and marched with joyful smiles into another world of childhood.

We find ourselves standing back looking upon these beautiful beings in awe and hanging onto every thread of memory.

The Rooster.

The kids were saying goodnight to Daddy in his art room and I turned and noticed this picture. I was in awe of it. I love Chagall, but I had never taken notice of this particular painting before.

I believe I was so drawn to it because it made me think about Amira saying goodbye to John (aka Sophie) the Rooster.

Sophie had been the crowned chick of the brood, Amira loved her Sophie. The days passed and much love was given. Eventually, Sophie grew up and we soon realized that Sophie was not a lady. Amira renamed her John.

Although he pecked and chased a few times, Amira was ever dedicated to John the Rooster.

One day John woke up early and crowed. That afternoon, John was heading off to a new home. Amira was brave, cried and said her goodbyes.

A Decade.

I have recently been reflecting and pondering over the twenties. (Although one of my favourite periods of time, I am not talking about the 1920s....would it not be wonderful if everyone still dressed like in the twenties).

With the big 3..0 looming, I have been thinking about the decade of my life known as my 20s.

I am not disappointed, thinking carefully through the good times and the bad times, I leave the decade with a bag of accomplishments.

I moved a way from home, went to college and lived with room mates. I traveled, ending up in America. I learned. I discovered different levels of spirituality. I followed my heart. I married. I survived two (very) sickly pregnancies. I birthed two healthy children. I discovered the true meaning of sacrifice. I ventured with my small family to live in England. We lived and returned. I got a good job. I grew in a small company to a high position. I supported my family. I purchased a home. I remodeled a kitchen for $1000. I raised a puppy. I raised four chickens. I grew my own vegetables. I lost my job and found a new one. I discovered the meaning of friendship. I discovered simple pleasures. I discovered the true meaning of family. Most of all, I have discovered the meaning of unconditional love.

Despite the list, panic has still set in a little. Your 30s always seem so far away. It seems like this is the decade where you really have to make movement in your life. Time to face the truth about who you are and what you want..(maybe I am a late bloomer). Time to think about retirement, college funds, savings...(again maybe a late bloomer!). Time to think about health, watching the diet, taking care of my skin, etc. Faced with the question.."what do I really want to be when I grow up".

I have to honestly say...I think I am going to love my thirties. Stay tuned to find out!

I oven roasted half my batch with olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper. With the second half, I pickled them them with Rosemary (also fresh from my herb garden) Vinegar and grilled them. Divinely delicious....

Welcome Back....

Just spent whole week playing in the waves and soaking up the sun in Dana Point, California.

It was a perfect time to relax and let go of the stress. Family loved it... discovered I have one water baby and one sand baby!!

Thanks again to Dan and Lisa, the two wonderful people, who looked after the rest of the family who could not be with us on the beach.

A new chapter....

I have been so worried and anxious about an enormous change that is coming to our family. In about 30 days I will be officially unemployed. The company that I have worked at for about 2 years has come to the end of the road and is finally shutting the doors.

I am relieved to say goodbye to this company, it has been a roller coaster of a ride and I am relieved to be getting off. Unless some miracle happens within the next 30 days, it will be the first time ever that I have been unemployed.

I have felt a huge surge of emotions in the past 3 months...stress, anxiety, fear, then also relief and determination. It has made me take a look at where my life is at this point and pushed me to make decisions that in the past I may have easily dismissed.

I was driving home last night and the stress just seemed to disappear (although I know it will resurface). I came to terms with that this is just another chapter in my life. I know that down the line I will learn from the possible hard financial times ahead. I will gain perspective in some way for working for a company that fell away. It will be interesting to see where the new road takes us and how we will survive and end up.

I read a quote a while back that stated something along the lines of:

In chaos comes opportunity.

It is funny how when times are difficult and you have no idea how things are going to work out. When it is hard to pull yourself out of bed to face another day of stress and anxiety. When the burden of responsibility and the pressure to provide the necessities is weighing down on you. It is possible to find yourself smiling.

I awoke this morning in a bad mood. Just simply fed up. Until I had a chance to review this wonderful animation of the most wonderful children's book.

The music is a simple melody that lifts the heart. The first image is how I felt. Although, I usually relate to Rose, today I felt like the elephant, wanting to hide away and stay in bed. It is nice to remember that there are always people like Rose, that love you and care for you in so many ways possible. Thank you to all those special people who listen and love with an open heart. I love you all and are so grateful to have you in my life.

I love this book. What a wonderful edition to the world of Children's Literature.

What a joyous, historical day! I actually believe that last night I experienced American patriotism for the first time. I have lived here for 8 years and last night I was finally proud to be part of this country. I feel that Walt Whitman sums up this new day....
